Mülheim City Centre

The redesigned underpass lighting directs visitors, avoids intimidating spaces and invites lingering in the urban areas of Mülheim.

To reach the city centre drivers, pedestrians and cyclists must cross the railway lines. Using this fact as a central design principle, linear lighting elements hanging from the underpass ceiling direct visitors to the town. Drawing inspiration from the nearby Ruhr River, lines of light converge towards the city centre und spread apart when moving away. This project was completed in cooperation with architect Simon Kassner.
